Prince Charles and Diana's 1981 Wedding was one of the most-watched events in history, beamed around the world in resplendent photographs and recalled by many as the most glamourous wedding of their generation.
We all also know how it all tragically came to an end. First, on Dec. 9, 1992, Britain’s Prince Charles and Princess Diana released a statement announcing their separation after 11 years of marriage. Prince Charles and Princess Diana did not reconcile after their separation and in August 1996, they divorced.
A year later, Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris. Prince Charles, later in 2005, married Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, with whom he was said to have had an affair during his marriage to
Diana.
Fast forward to 2015, a collection of 14 candid, previously unpublished photographs, taken during the wedding reception at Buckingham Palace on July 29, 1981 have just been made public.
They were taken by Diana's relative and he was the only photographer allowed to take informal photographs of the royal family and their guests when they returned to the palace for the reception. The pics will be sold at auction next month.
The pic above captures Princess Diana whispering words of encouragement to her five-year-old bridesmaid as she carries the young girl through the grand rooms of Buckingham Palace. At her side is Queen, who had just moments ago become her mother-in-law when she married Charles, the Prince of Wales, in a ceremony held at St Paul's Cathedral. See more pics below.
