The Oyo State Government has cancelled the 2015 annual sponsorship of Muslims to the holy lands of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia, we have been told.
This came barely 24 hours after the government of Abiola Ajimobi announced the stoppage of payment of fees for West African Examinations Council (WAEC) students across the state public secondary schools. The government also re-introduced school fees in all secondary schools in the state.
Alhaji Abdulkarim Adeleke, the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim wing) Secretary, said on Thursday the government was not sponsoring any pilgrim for the 2015 Hajj.
Adeleke told reporters in Ibadan that the state government cancelled the sponsorship of pilgrims to the 2015 Hajj due to economic difficulties.
